George was an incredible man. He was a friend, mentor, boss, fellow thespian, set designer and more. I had the pleasure of performing with him in the Silver Whistle in the mid-80s. He was a character to say the least. I loved to experience his vision of things. He designed the set for Diary of Anne Frank. I was producer. He made the world an interesting place. I am glad he was in my life. My sympathies to his daughters and their families. Rest in Peace.

So many memories of George, personal and Hillside Players. He was one of a kind! I especially remember his Scrooge the two times one of my sons played Tiny Tim. Perhaps my favorite role with the Players was Elizabeth Proctor opposite his John Proctor in The Crucible. It was a challenging role and working together was unforgettable. The entire Downie family has been very special to me. My deepest sympathy to all.
