Worship At West Side
Sundays are busy at West Side! Chapel services start at 8:45 a.m. for the early risers. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with light, and there is a palpable energy here, sending participants out into the world with renewed faith and hope. At 10:00 a.m., the service is in the Sanctuary, where stained glass, full choir, pipe organ and a traditional Presbyterian liturgy help us connect with God and the world. Finally, at 5:15 p.m., a contemporary worship service is offered on the lower level in DePhillips Hall, for those who want an informal, family-oriented worship experience. We hope that one or more of these services can inspire you on your spiritual journey.
For more than 100 years, West Side has sustained a commitment to the Reformed tradition of worship. The Reformed tradition places a high value on the preaching of the Word of God and the celebration of the Sacraments: The Lord’s Supper and Baptism. Throughout its existence, West Side has also been committed to music as the heart of the worship life of this congregation. Through congregational singing, led by the choirs, the Nichols & Simpson pipe organ under the hands (and feet) of some of the best organists in the area, and other instrumentalists, West Side virtually shakes the rafters each week as music is offered Soli Deo Gloria, to the Glory of God alone. The same gifted musicians inspire our times of quiet preparation, meditation and prayer during worship. God is worshiped as loving, merciful, gracious and kind, calling us to live just and loving lives in relationship to our family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and adversaries. The preaching is biblical and practical, personal and communal, centered on the life, ministry and teaching of Jesus as the Christ for all humanity. Traditional Worship happens in the beautiful sanctuary space, dedicated in 2006, artfully designed to affirm the light of God and the warmth of gathering with God’s people who are sent out into the world to be humble and loving servants of God. This service is streamed live each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Click to go to Videostreaming. Worship is open to all people and welcoming of any who would seek to know a God of love and mercy.
If you wish to dedicate flowers for the 10:00 a.m. service, please contact Russell Clark.
Foundation: Contemporary Worship
Join us for Foundation, the contemporary worship service on Sundays at 5:15 p.m. on the lower level in DePhillips Hall. The chaos of daily life only accentuates our need for a sure foundation — a relationship with God. Foundation is an informal, family-friendly, immersive evening worship experience where you can join others who are searching for meaning and reaching for more out of life. Come as you are, and leave inspired. The Foundation Band rehearses Sundays at 3:30 p.m. for participation in the Foundation contemporary service at 5:15 p.m. For more information about Foundation, please email Rev. Marc Oehler or visit the Foundation website. Please join us!
Music At West Side
Since the first service in October 1912, the West Side congregation has been grounded in its belief that the highest calling of music is to praise God.

Music, carefully chosen, carefully prepared, prayerfully offered, is intricately woven into our liturgical life. Adults, youth, and children meet weekly to prepare for worship through singing choirs, handbell choirs, and instrumental ensembles.
Christian Education and music education are a part of the fabric of each rehearsal in the West Side Choir School. In its 100 years, the music ministry of this congregation has only changed leadership four times, testimony to the love for music and the arts which characterize this people of God.
Rehearsals for the 2016-2017 Program Year have begun. For children’s and youth choirs, we need registration forms on file, which include current contact and emergency information. It is helpful if parents can fill out a registration form in advance for each child enrolling…it saves a lot of time on the first day of rehearsals! The Arts At West Side
West Side has a rich tradition of incorporating music and the arts into our spiritual journey. When the artist touches canvas with a brush, when the actor transcends reality, when song expresses the deepest stirrings of the soul, we are moved and, at once, more aware of God’s presence in our lives.
The Gallery at West Side
West Side has its own community art gallery, lit with natural light from the skylights above. Sales of work exhibited at the Gallery means a 25% donation to the church. The Gallery operates under the auspices of the Fine Arts Guild of the Worship and Music Council, whose mission is:
- To provide members and visitors with an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy a variety of forms of artistic expression.
- To encourage local artists and to inform others about them by providing a display venue.
- To continue to foster an appreciation for artistic expression within West Side and as an outreach to the greater community.
- To show how God so loves us as to enable the creation of such enriching artistic expression, thus providing us with greater reason and opportunity to offer thanks and praise.
Exhibitions are chosen by a committee of members, chaired by John Ianacone. To protect the works of art that have been entrusted to us for the duration of each exhibit, no food or beverages are permitted in the gallery. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
25% of all sales are donated to West Side.
