Walk-Fit

Walk-Fit introduces a unique way to take a walk—indoors!  The upbeat music and uncomplicated movements will have participants taking the equivalent of a one-mile walk in 12-18 minutes, depending on the speed of the music.  All movement patterns are low-impact (gentle on the joints), making it suitable for every age, gender, and fitness level.  This is a power walk that will boost your health, fitness, and spirit!  This series will be offered on  the four Wednesdays in June at 5:00 p.m. Location: DePhillips Dining Room.  Wear comfortable clothing. Questions? Contact Pat McGlade, Parish Nurse, extension 35, or pat@westside.org.

Hurricane Sandy Recovery

The Missions and Social Concerns Council asks for your help responding to the crisis created by Hurricane Sandy.  Please help in at least one of three ways:

  1. Pray for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy: God of all time and place, we thank you for your sustaining grace when our fears are large and our faith is small.  Storms have brought destruction to our sisters and brothers.  We grieve the lost of lives, homes, and work.  Please send your Spirit to the broken and bruised places in their lives.  Show us how we can give practical care the rebuilds and renews.  Lead us to the place where hope reigns again.    May the gift of new life in your son Jesus Christ keep us in these days.  Amen.
  2. Donate money.  Make checks payable to West Side Presbyterian Church with either PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, which helps in the rebuildling) or Pastor Contingency (immediate needs) on the memo line.  PDA specializes in the reconstruction phase of recovery, so the money will be used to help rebuild people's homes.
  3. Help rebuild.  We are partnering with the Presbytery of the Palisades (POP)  and the Presbyterian Church of Toms River (PCTR)to help in the worst hit areas. West Siders participated in December 15th, January 26th and February 23rd Work Trips to Toms River.  To see pictures, visit our Local Mission page.

Safe on Your Feet

Is Your Life Balanced?  West Side Health Ministries is offering a third opportunity to participate in “Safe on Your Feet.”    This is a multi-level fitness program for active seniors or beginning and rehabilitating exercisers that will improve the critical muscle, strength, joint mobility, and dynamic balance and stability required to accomplish many of the activities of daily living and recreational events that enrich our lives.  Offered at 12:15 p.m. in the DePhillips Dining Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays, this 55-minute class is open to men and women. The cost is $80 for the 8-week course.  See or contact Pat McGlade (201-652-1966, ext. 35 or pat@westside.org) for more information about the course.  Don’t put it off.  Sign up now.  If you have a friend who wants to join too, invite him/her to register as well.

The special centennial history is available in the Narthex between services--or you can order it now by sending in an order form!  This beautiful, hard-bound volume is a must for every West Sider’s library.  Price:  $50 for 88 pages of historical detail, rare black and white photos, gorgeous color photos, and heart-warming memories.  For order form, click here!
