We have received permission from Cape Henlopen State Park to apply for both the large camp we have been using and the small self-contained Youth Camp III. What this means is that next year we may be able to offer both the traditional middle school camp and a new high school Henlopen, adjusted for the older age group. Rev. Smith says, "There are three things I need to be sure of before applying for the additional camp site." These are:

Special Henlopen News:
1. Enough interest–6+ males, 6+ females (maximum of 12 each)
2. Enough adult leadership–We would need at least twice as many adults as we've had the past few years. You will need to talk your parents or some young adults (25 or older) into going. It might make it easier to have a parent of a middle schooler work the high school camp and vice versa. But I need names.
3. Enough high school youth who will continue to work as counselors for the middle school camp. I do have plans for how these counselors can spend time with their peers at the high school camp. Again, I need names of youth willing to be counselors.
If you are interested in this program, please email Kent Smith soon at kent@westside.org.
Middle School Henlopen Camp
For kids entering grade 6 through graduating from grade 8; Counselor in Training (CIT) program for grades 9 and up who have not yet gone through the program.
Every summer West Side runs a middle school camp program at Henlopen State Park in Delaware. The park is situated on the beach along the ocean. The date is usually in early July, but it is determined by a lottery, so it changes each year. This popular program draws 60 plus middle schoolers, plus high school age kids as counselors and adults to cook, lead, drive, and supervise. Last year more than 105 West Siders attended Henlopen in July.

With the beach a few hundred yards away and with our own cooking facilities (and cooks), dorms, and clean modern bath houses, we have all we need for an enjoyable week of recreation, study, singing, games, fellowship, and an evening at the Rehobeth Beach boardwalk—and always a few surprises.
High School Henlopen
A new program proposed for 2010. This will be at the same time as the Middle School Henlopen, but will be at the smaller "Youth Camp III" and adjusted to the older age group. A more relaxed pace and a focus on relationships, High School Henlopen will give youth not interested in being counselors for the younger youth a chance to continue going to Henlopen. This will also open up more space for both Middle Schoolers and High School youth to go.
Please contact kent@westside.org if you think you are interested. A $100 deposit will hold a place.
Cost is $100 deposit for campers and CITs to hold a place; $400 total cost. Places for any given age group are limited.
Interested in being on staff, contact Rev. Kent Smith, kent@westside.org.
