Sunday, May 2nd 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
"Pleasure is Law"
flute, oboe, violoncello and keyboard ensemble
Formed in 2002, the ensemble is devoted to the exploration of contemporary repertoire composed for this traditional baroque combination. They take their name and inspiration from teh following quote by composer Claude Dubbusy: "Some people wish above all to conform to the rules. I wish only to render what I can hear. There is no theory. You have only to listen. Pleasure is the law." Performances by Darrett Adkins, cellist, have been called "heroic," "stunning" and "intensely involving" by The New York Times. Critically acclaimed flutist with double degrees from The Julliard School, Nadine Asin, has been hailed by the New York Times for her "liquid virtuosity." Pianist Steven Beck, hailed by New Yorker magazine as one of New York's "most admired young pianists," is also a graduate of The Julliard School. Elaine Douvas, Principal Oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 1977, is one of the most influential teachers and performers in the USA today. These superb musicians will close our series for the year with an afternoon of music to launch us into spring with a fresh approach.
