The Choirs
The next Celebration Sunday is March 28th (Palm Sunday).
St. Matthew Passion: Chapel, Covenant, John Knox, Senior High trebles, Oratorio Choir, and instrumentalists involved in the Bach St. Matthew Passion: Just a reminder that the dress rehearsals at Thursday, March 18, 7:30 p.m. (Chapel, Covenant, John Knox, and Senior High trebles will by finished by 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday, March 20, 9 a.m.-noon. Please be in place and ready to sing at the start time.
The Senior High Choir will be singing next Sunday, March 14, for FOCUS Sunday. This choir will also sing on Maundy Thursday.
Chapel, Covenant, and John Knox will sing at Tenebrae on Good Friday. There is a special rehearsal for Tenebrae on Good Friday, April 2, at 10 a.m. Please make sure this is on your calendar!
The Chancel Choir divides into two sections which lead in worship at 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. The full choir sings at special services throughout the year. Rehearsals are each Thursday, 8 to 10:15 p.m. The winter retreat will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010, at West Side from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work on the spring oratorio will begin at 1 p.m.
The Oratorio Choir, made up of singers whose schedules do not permit them to participate in the regular Chancel Choir, joins the Chancel Choir in the performance of major choral works. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in conjunction with the Chancel Choir from 9 to 10:15 p.m. Rehearsals for the spring oratorio will begin at the retreat on Saturday, January 9th at 1 p.m., and continue with Thursday evening rehearsals beginning on January 14th. There will be Sunday rehearsals for the spring oratorio on January 31st and February 28th at 12:30 p.m., as well as a Saturday dress rehearsal on March 20th at 9 a.m.
The Summer Choir provides music for summer worship. Singers of junior high age and above are invited to participate by reporting for rehearsal at 9:15 a.m. for the 10 a.m. service. Newcomers, college students, and those unable to make a weekly commitment during the program year are most welcome.
Youth and Children's Choirs
All Children's and Youth choirs: Our next singing Sundays are March 7 and 28 (Palm/Passion Sunday), so we need everyone at rehearsal so we'll be ready!
The children's and youth choirs will participate in worship on December 24 (Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols), February 7, March 7, March 28 (Palm Sunday), and May 2 (Choir Recognition Sunday). 8:45 a.m.: Chapel, Covenant, John Knox, and Senior High Choirs; 11:15 a.m.: Carol and Senior High Choirs
The Senior High Choir, grades 9-12: Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. The Senior High Choir sings in worship December 24 (Christmas Eve, 4:30 p.m., Lessons and Carols), February 7, March 14 (FOCUS Sunday), April 1 (Maundy Thursday), April 4 (Easter Sunday), May 2, and on June 13 (Senior Sunday--date tentative).
The Chapel Choir, girls, grades 4-5: and The Covenant Choir, girls, grades 6-8: Both girls' choirs rehearse on Thursdays, 4:00-5:15 p.m.
The John Knox Boy Choir, boys with unchanged voices, grades 4-8: Rehearsals are on Tuesdays, 4-5:30 p.m.
In addition to the Sunday schedule listed above, the Chapel, Covenant, and John Knox Boy choirs will sing at the Service of Tenebrae on Good Friday, April 2, 8 p.m.
