Family Ministries

Easter Egg Hunt

Families with young children are invited to West Side's annual Easter Egg Hunt. This year's event takes place on Palm Sunday, March 24th. Bring your own basket and meet in the dining hall after 10:00 a.m. worship for crafts, activities, and singing with Mrs. Parks. The Easter Egg Hunt will follow, split into two groups: 1) toddlers-age 5, in the playground; 2) grades K-5 on the Barn lawn. Please join us for some festive Easter fun.

Cents-Ability

NOTE: Don't forget to bring in your Cents-Ability collection on Palm Sunday, March 24th.
We will be once again inviting families to participate in the Cents-Ability program this Lent to heighten awareness of hunger and highlight simple things all of us can do to help. Families are asked to put two cents into their Cents-Ability jar at each meal and to say a prayer to end hunger. Parents can involve children in this activity by discussing as a family the idea of hunger. Pennies collected during Lent will be dedicated on Palm Sunday, March 24th. We will make a joyful noise to the Lord with our pennies! Look for further materials about this program.

Adult Night Out

Adult Night Out meets one Saturday each month, following the 5:38 service. Please join us for potluck fun after the service. There is no cost, but we need volunteers to provide main dishes, salads, side dishes, desserts, and drinks. As always, this is a BYOB event! The next one will be held at the home of Tom and Lisa Kopff on Saturday, May 4th following the 5:38 service. Questions? Please contact Eileen Heuer, Liz Junod, or Debra Burns.

Kids Club/Child Care

During the Adult Night Out, child care is available at the church for $15 per child, $30 maximum per family. Pizza is available for $2 per slice. Please contact Carol Walton, to sign up for child care

What Family Ministries Does

The Family Ministries Committee has several responsibilities:

  • To minister to and be the advocates for children from birth to kindergarten age, as     well as to their parents. Beginning with a visit by West Side's Associate Pastor for Family Ministries with a cradle cross for the newborn's crib, this Committee is active in developing fun and educational programs for young children. Activities during the year may include a Pumpkin Party, Christmas Craft Time, Maundy Thursday Family Dinner, and Easter Egg Hunt.
  • To arrange child care for church functions, including weekday and evening meetings and during Sunday worship, and to ensure that the rooms used by these children are adequately equipped and safe.
  • To oversee the operation of the Church School on S

unday mornings. This ministry includes recruitment of teachers for both Church School hours, selection of curriculum, ordering classroom supplies, and maintaining attendance records.
  • To coordinate special mission programs, such as the Thanksgiving Basket collection and the Wish Tree during Advent.

Cradle Cross Program

Each newborn child in the congregation is visited by the

Associate Pastor for Family Life, who brings a packet of materials including an oak cradle cross, baby calendar, book on communion and baptism, and information about West Side's programs. Celebrating the birth of our children is a joyous occasion for all of us.

The ABC's of West Side

West Side member Susan Gardner has produced an ABC book about the church, entitled "W Is for West Side." Although it's targeted towards younger members of the congregation, it's entertaining and informative for adults as well. For each letter of the alphabet, there are photos of locations and items around West Side, plus a Bible verse. The book costs $45 and makes a wonderful gift for family members, and friends (remember that Easter, confirmation, and graduation are all coming up!). There are at least 26 good reasons to own a copy of "W Is for West Side." The 27th? All proceeds benefit the church.
